  • (1888PressRelease) November 17, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 129.23 to help businesses understand Indian azo dye requirements for imported textiles and apparel.

Under India regulations, it is prohibited to manufacture or sell consumer products containing listed aromatic amines originating from restricted azo dyes. Textiles and apparel can be imported into India if they do not contain these hazardous dyes.

To successful import products into India, the consignments must be accompanied by a pre-shipment certificate (PSC) certifying that the product does not contain a prohibited substance listed under azo dyes. Testing must be conducted on every style and color by a textile testing laboratory accredited to the National Accreditation Agency (NAA) of the country of origin.

SGS has published SafeGuardS 129.23 to provide an overview of India rules regarding the import of textiles in regard to azo dyes. Included in the SafeGuardS are details of an amendment issued on June 14, 2023, that clarifies the testing of textiles and textile articles for the presence of azo dyes is not required for products originating in the following countries:
    • European Union countries
    • Serbia
    • Poland
    • Denmark
    • Australia
    • Canada
    • Japan
    • South Korea
    • United Kingdom

Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 129.23 for more information, including a list of prohibited azo dyes.
