    • With an investment of around 150 million Euro in next few years, Schaeffler is expanding its manufacturing footprint in India

    • With growing awareness of environmental friendly and fuel efficient technologies in India - Schaeffler envisages strong potential for strengthening of its business and engineering cooperation with leading Indian automobile customers.

    • Schaeffler India will be adding approximately 1200 employees over next 3 / 4 years to support its growth and to strengthen its R & D and engineering capabilities substantially.

The focus of attention will be on India's growing automotive sector at the Auto Expo Delhi, which is taking place from January 5 to 11, 2012. With the motto efficient future mobility, Schaeffler is presenting a large number of innovations for optimizing conventional drive trains with internal combustion engines in Delhi. The highlight of the Schaeffler booth is the concept model Schaeffler Advanced Drive, which showcases a range of innovative solutions for engines, transmissions and chassis These solutions when appropriately applied and seamlessly integrated offer potential of up to 30% improvement in terms of fuel consumption.

Strong development of economy and growing need for personal mobility will drive demand of cars in India. Besides India's rising level of motorization, the growing exports of Indian automobiles in developed markets will encourage Indian companies to adopt innovative engineering solutions and gain global competitiveness.

While, Indian market is characterized by marked cost consciousnesses, the awareness about environmentally-friendly and efficient technologies is also increasing in India. This trend is particularly driven by increasing emission requirements and rising fuel costs ;for example the price of gasoline in relation to purchasing power is amongst the highest in India. This obviously means that Indian automobile companies will focus not just on initial costs but increasingly on total cost of ownership ( TCO) during a vehicle's life cycle.

Schaeffler offers diverse product portfolio to Indian automobile companies towards meeting these requirements. A large number of different systems for variable valve trains are exhibited in the Schaeffler advanced Drive . "Growing demands in terms of energy efficiency are increasing the focus on modern valve train components", says Matthias Zink - President Automotive - Schaeffler Asia Pacific. "Shaeffler solutions for start-stop systems, chain drives, clutch, shift systems , transmission components and advanced wheel bearings have already found a lot of interest among Indian automobile customers leading to several joint development projects ..' says Wolfgang Dangel,Member of Executive Board and President Schaeffler Automotive.

At the Auto Expo ,Schaeffler is also presenting an electronic clutch management system, and automated manual transmissions, which will serve in the cost-conscious Indian market as alternatives to the double clutch solutions which are popular in Europe. : " These transmission concepts are very attractive for India. They offer comfort and potential for optimizing fuel consumption. Automated manual transmissions are also suitable for use in combination with start-stop systems and hybridisation" adds Matthias Zink,President Schaeffler Automotive Asia - Pacific

On the chassis side too , Schaeffler is presenting a number of products , including advanced wheel bearing systems with face splines and speed sensors. These maintenance free integrated solutions offer excellent benefits in terms of 'total cost of ownership '

Commenting on Schaeffler's presence in India, Anil Shah- President Schaeffler India says-" India has been Shaeffler high priority market and we have successful presence here for nearly 50 years . All three Schaeffler brands INA, LuK and FAG have well established manufacturing foot print in India' Elaborating on Schaeffler India strategy , he adds; ' we are very well prepared and are planning further activities so that we not only share in growth, but also actively shape the market. We are continuously expanding Shaeffler engineering and manufacturing footprints in India accordingly. For example, we set up advanced 3rd Generation wheel bearing manufacturing facility this year at Shaeffler Vadodara plant. With an estimated investment of 150 million Euros, we are also expanding Shaeffler existing plants at Pune , Hosur and Vadodara - besides constructing an additional location at Savli ( Gujarat ) which will manufacture low friction ball bearings and bearings for renewable energy explains Anil Shah.

'Engineering and Innovation represent core strengths of Schaeffler Group world wide adds Matthias Zink,' I see a lot of enthusiasm among customers here to adapt Shaeffler innovations for their new platforms . We see Shaeffler customers shifting from 'initial cost based approach ' to life cycle focused cost and engineering strategy . And in order to realize the full benefits of this emerging trend , we will double Shaeffler engineering resources in two years. To support Shaeffler growth , we will be recruiting over 1200 employees over next 3 to 4 years and a large number of the new recruits will be trained to high level of competence in application , product design .and in R& D. With three strong brands, immense global know how and extensive understanding of Indian market , we are well prepared to offer 'best in class' engineering partnership to Shaeffler Indian customers : summed up . Matthias Zink while speaking to newspersons here at Auto Expo , New Delhi.
