SASAM project displayed in the 12th AM Platform Meeting
In the event the project coordinator presented the work carried out up to now in SASAM's project, calling attendants to participate within the next stakeholders meeting in September.
- (1888PressRelease) July 09, 2013 - Last June 13th, the AM platform meeting, kindly hosted by the European Commission, was held at their facilities in Brussels. Within this event, a 'picture' of the origin, growth and ambitions of the AM Platform was presented; furthermore, attendants analysed in depth the upcoming H2020 FoF, updating the information on 9 related projects and reviewing the Strategic Research Agenda on Rapid manufacturing, currently opened for consultation.
In this event, the SASAM project coordinator held a presentation titled "Standardization CSA SASAM". After showing the importance on Standardization in Additive Manufacturing to freely compete with other conventional manufacturing technologies and displaying the tasks undertaken within the project development, the presentation ended calling attendants to be subscribed to the next stakeholders meeting, to be held on September 27th at CEN premises.
The aim of this network event with stakeholders will be to receive some feedback from SASAM open documents, i.e. the AM standardisation roadmap, and will be followed by some industrial information days. This will initiate the creation of the network for the development of standards. To this end, SASAM has made an inventory of stakeholders segregated by different groups to mention related industries and their associations/federations, chambers of commerce, universities, RTDs and Platforms, Standard and Public bodies, publications and magazines, etc.
One of the tasks of the project was the carrying out and distribution of a questionnaire among project and other partners' contacts with the aim to get a complete overview of the stakeholders' current vision, targets and on-going actions in the area of standardization. The mapping of the results of this questionnaire will include the ones considered within the mentioned workshop.
Additionally, more than 20 existing roadmaps for AM standardization have been deeply analysed, including the key elements, as well as some topics defined and deduced.
Frits Feenstra, project coordinator from TNO and active member of the AM Platform, establishes that the "AM standardization document will comprise a consistent, top level set of standards. For that purpose, the consortium is carrying out an important job to set the structure of the matrix. Currently, the content and/or framework for standards are being set"
This project, supported by the European Commission within NMP-SA-2012-319167 (G.A II.30.4), has a duration of 18 months. It is led by TNO and 18 partners participate, including great partners such as Siemens, SINTEF or CETIM, several research organizations like SIRRIS (B), University of Loughborough (GB), or INSPIRE (CH), and several national standardization organisms from The Netherlands (NEN), France (UNM) and Sweden (SIS).
