  • San Diego, CA (1888PressRelease) November 26, 2014 - UP by Daybreaker was created at San Diego Startup Weekend at the San Diego New Public Library on November 14-16, 2014. The event was the first of its kind to tackle hardware and software innovation. It brought together a diversity of skillsets including entrepreneurship, and web and mobile software development with new means of making: 3D printing, robotics and hardware. The San Diego event was also part will of the Global Startup Battle a competition to inspire the entrepreneurs around the globe.

The weekend commenced with participants pitching their startup idea. The top ideas were voted upon and teams organically formed to kick start a 54-hour mission in business model creation, coding, designing and market validation.

First place went to UP by Daybreaker, the smarter way to start your day. Getting up in the morning is often difficult. Alarm lamps have been proven to help you naturally wake up but cost an average of $120. UP will only cost you $49 - almost a 60% savings! Not only that, but YOU get to use your own lamp!

UP is a tangible plug-in that turns any ordinary lamp into a smart alarm by connecting it with your smartphone. Unlike conventional alarm lamps, UP taps into the Internet with plug-ins such as Time Saver Traffic, Google Calendar, SurfLine or Twitter to wake you up only when you really NEED to.

If an early morning meeting is cancelled or if there's an accident on your morning commute, UP has got you covered and can adjust your wake-up time! UP isn't all business, though. It can also connect to other web data like SurfLine to check the waves or alerts via Twitter.

To demonstrate how the UP App can set your alarm from just about anything, even a Twitter post, the team is asking YOU to turn the light on and off right now by going to http://www.GottaGetUp.co and tweeting #daybreaker. Watch it in action via our live webcam.

Voting for the Global Startup Battle begins on 11/26 at 2 PM PST and ends on 12/1. Support your local San Diego team by placing your vote!
