  • (1888PressRelease) June 16, 2011 - Paris - This event, being organized by GIFAS (Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales), will see Samtel presenting its range of world-class avionics products.

Puneet Kaura, Executive Director, Samtel Display Systems said, "The Show provides a great opportunity for India to showcase its technological capabilities on an international platform. The Indian Aerospace and Defence industry has come of age now and the global players recognize the potential of the Indian players and the opportunities available to them in India. We are glad that Samtel is at a stage that it can offer a repertoire of state-of-the-art avionics displays and advanced systems to meet the customized requirements of the worldwide aerospace industry."

At its Stand N° D-17, Hall 4, Samtel will be exhibiting its 12"x9" and 6"x8" Smart Multi-Function Displays (SMFD) with state of the art features such as LED Backlighting, high brightness & contrast, smart capability and fanless cooling, conforming to global standards. The indigenous development of the Smart MFD has given Samtel Display Systems the unique distinction of being the ONLY company in India to have an avionics display at par with the global suppliers in this domain.

TopOwl® - the Helmet Mounted Sight & Display for helicopter piloting/targeting, which is being offered through SDS's joint venture company Samtel Thales Avionics Ltd. will also be put on display. TopOwl® is already installed and fully operational on five major helicopter programmes: Tiger, NH90, Cobra AH-1Z, Huey UH-1Y and Rooivalk; and an additional programme, the T129, is in progress. The system has been chosen by 16 countries for their army, navy and/or air force attack and transport helicopters. A demo film on DivyDrishti - the Indian Helmet Mounted Sight and Display, which is based on Thales' advanced and mature technologies, and is already flying on Indian Navy MiG-29K and qualified on Mirage 2000, will also be showcased at the booth.

Infra Red Search and Track (IRST), which is a passive long-range tracking and imaging device, and is used for automatic tracking and detection of multiple targets, will also be demonstrated on the booth through a demo film by Samtel Thales Avionics Ltd. IRST detects and tracks the infra-red signatures of multiple aircraft at long range, over a wide field of view, day & night and adverse weather conditions and projects the data as a steerable image on pilot's helmet mounted display.

The booth will also feature Samtel's Rugged Display for Airborne, Land and Naval applications. The display is built with indigenous LCD ruggedisation technology with LED/CCFL based backlighting, high dimming range and contrast ratio, and full sunlight readability. This thin & light weight display is compliant to JSS 55555 and MIL-STD-810F, and offers compliance to MIL-STD-461C as an option.

Multifunction Displays (MFDs) by SDS' joint venture with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) have already been qualified and are being inducted on Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft in India. With this, the Samtel HAL JV has achieved the unique distinction of being the first public-private partnership in defence avionics space in India to have a primary cockpit display qualified and productionised for induction on a fighter aircraft. SDS is also supplying EFIS40 (Electronic Flight Instrument System) displays for Honeywell's Bendix/King range of commercial aircraft. Samtel is the sole source for this tube across the world, and has a long-term contract for its supply with Honeywell. Another contract has been signed with Thales for 6x6 Full Color Display for Airbus, besides an MoU with SAAB Avitronics for RIGS Head Up Displays.
