Sheikh Salem Al Ali Informatics Award board of trustees granted its informatics medal 2011 to King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), in appreciation of its effective role in telecommunications; leading great transformations in the IT sector, developing sciences, encouraging creativity and pushing the economic wheel in Saudi Arabia.

    The award manager Dr. Khalil Abul praised KACST huge efforts, its entrepreneurial visions and its contribution in developing more than 190 programs aimed at advancing the fields of science and informatics.
    "We'd like to congratulate King Abdulaziz City for all the hard work, capabilities, and expertise it offered throughout the past years, spreading informatics knowledge and enabling the Saudi society to keep pace with the latest technologies." Dr. Abul said.

    Dr. Abul pointed out that the medal will be handed to KACST during the award's closing ceremony to be held in Kuwait under the patronage and presence of HRH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah.
    Founded in 1985, KACST is an independent scientific organization administratively reporting to the Prime Minister. KACST is both the Saudi Arabian national science agency and its national laboratories. The science agency function involves science and technology policy making, data collection, funding of external research, and services such as the patent office.

    Its main responsibilities, among others, include proposing a national policy for the development of science and technology and develop strategies and plans necessary to implement them, coordinating with government agencies, scientific institutions and research centers in the Kingdom to enhance research exchange information and expertise and conducting applied research and provide advice to the government on science and technology matters.

    It is worth mentioning that Salem Al Ali's award is considered developmental methodology in the field of informatics and digital culture and is an independent, non-profit award. The award has been established in 2001 under the patronage and support of HRH Sheikh Salem Ali Al Sabah, the president of National Guard. The award has spread its events to include every Arab country in 2007, under the patronage of HRH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, and is considered the first and the largest in its sector.
