  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) March 16, 2013 - Sage Electronic Engineering, the custom design provider specializing in complete open source solutions for the embedded community, has demonstrated the first coreboot® bootloader based on the Intel® Firmware Support Package.

Sage is working with microprocessor innovator Intel to create new open source options for embedded developers.

Sage is adapting coreboot®-based firmware to Intel's processors, thus making available new open-source solutions for the worldwide embedded development community.

A long-time development sponsor of coreboot®, a Free Software project created to replace proprietary BIOS, Sage has developed SageBIOS™, a coreboot® distribution that eliminates many issues associated with traditional BIOS. Designed for customization, SageBIOS™ can boot from anything (FLASH, IDE, SATA HDD, USB, Ethernet, custom sources) and boots to everything (Linux®, Windows®, RTOS, BSDs, Solaris®, Legacy, BareMetal).

Sage is already working with companies designing Intel-based platforms to provide SageBIOS™ coreboot solutions for their products.

Sage is a General member of the Intel® Intelligent Systems Alliance, a global ecosystem of 200+ member companies that provide the performance, connectivity, manageability, and security developers need to create smart, connected systems. Sage will make coreboot®-based SageBIOS™ available as a bootloader option for Intel processors. This news is of particular interest to enablers of firmware solutions across numerous industries.

"The flexibility of the open source SageBIOS™ and coreboot® solutions allows embedded developers to provide better customer value while reducing costs," said Kerry Brown, Vice President of Sage. "The direct support of a company like Intel will enable Intelligent Systems providers to deliver purpose-built devices to market more quickly, and at a lower price."

Sage will have a booth at the upcoming Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Beijing, China, April 10 - 11. IDF attendees can stop by the Sage booth to see a demonstration and learn more about coreboot®, SageBIOS™, and the benefits of developing systems using the open source model.

Sage Electronic Engineering, www.se-eng.com, is committed to providing embedded developers with design resources to succeed in open source development. The company's Sage Design Center offers a broad range of hardware and software development services to help customers build better products and get them to market faster. Sage helps customers around the globe achieve fully customized open source solutions through SageBIOS™, a coreboot® distribution. In addition, Sage creates advanced development tools that present a complete system view for maximum visibility and control.
