  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) October 02, 2012 - Ecuador's Yasuni National Park is one of the world's premier ecological habitats, is home to the indigenous Huaorani people, and also holds a vast reserve of oil. United Nations members have agreed to provide financial aid to the Ecuadorian government with a series of fund-raising projects to preserve the region and its people by forestalling a tapping of the oil reserves that could irrevocably damage the region. That highly important fund-raising effort comes to Northern New Jersey on October 10.

For three days in October, the Best Western Robert Treat Hotel will host participants of a benefit soccer match slated for Red Bull Stadium in neighboring Harrison, N.J. between top Ecuadorian teams and arch rivals Barcelona and Emelke. All proceeds of the event, which is expected to be attended by Ecuadorian President Rafael Vicente Correa, will be donated to the Yasuni preservation effort.

"Ecuador's consul general for the New Jersey/Pennsylvania region, Dr. Jessica Escala, approached us about hosting the teams and Ecuadorian officials including President Correa," said Shah Deen, general manager of the Best Western Robert Treat, owned by The Berger Organization based in Newark. "We readily agreed and are very proud to be part of this important effort.

"We have had a continuing relationship with the Ecuadorian government, hosting top officials visiting the New York/New Jersey region, including the Washington, D.C.-based ambassador," said Deen. "We are very pleased to be able to continue that relationship, particularly considering the importance of this event."

The Best Western Robert Treat will provide accommodations and specially prepared food for both teams, numbering 35 players, coaches and officials each, as well as for Ecuadorian officials including President Correa. The teams will arrive on October 9 for the October 10 game, slated to begin at 7:30 p.m., and depart on October 11.
