  • Nassau-Suffolk, NY (1888PressRelease) November 21, 2012 - For the fourth year in a row, Adelphi University will host a business conference for long island high school students. The format of the program will be themed around that of NBC's The Apprentice. Students who participate will get hands-on learning experience and the chance to network with Adelphi business faculty and alumni. Hosted by the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, the event will take place on Tuesday, November 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.

The program will begin with a presentation given by Willumstad business faculty on marketing strategies, including the four P's: product, price, promotion, and place. After being divided into groups, the students will work together to create a marketing plan based on a sample case assignment. For example, last year's challenge was to develop a marketing proposal for an eReader to compete with the Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook. The activity gives the students the chance to showcase their newly learned skills and work in a collaborative team environment. At the conclusion of the program, each group will present their marketing plans to a team of judges, who serve the place of Donald Trump.

Adelphi's Apprentice event continues to expand, drawing 254 high school students from 26 high schools across Long Island last year.
