  • (1888PressRelease) April 15, 2011 - On Saturday, April 16th, the Charleston Symphony Chorus and Orchestra celebrate the life and accomplishments of their longtime conductor, Maestro David Stahl, performing the glorious Brahms' Requiem. Rick Hendrick BMW, Charleston Symphony Chorus and a great many others have joined hands to celebrate one strong point that they have in common: an insurmountable respect for the legendary Maestro David Stahl. The concert will feature voices from the College of Charleston Concert Choir, members of the Taylor Festival Choir and other accomplished artists from across the Southeast.

Saundra DeAthos, a highly acclaimed feature soprano with the San Francisco Opera, and David Templeton, a renowned Baritone soloist and opera singer, are the two soloists who would also be participating in the concert.

Brad Davis, GM of Rick Hendrick Auto in Charleston announced BMW's support. "David was a good friend of our dealership, so we are pleased to play a role in paying a joyful tribute to him." BMW Manufacturing Co. in Spartanburg, SC recognized Stahl helped the entire state establish its Fine Arts credentials, which they also value. BMW is headquartered in Munich, where Stahl was Music Director of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (Munich Opera) when not in Charleston.

Dr. Robert Taylor has been appointed to conduct 200 musicians and the two excellent soloists for the musical event. He had been preparing choruses for Maestro Stahl since 1998, and as Stahl and Brahms would have wanted the concert will be sung in German. Taylor explains, "The intent of this Requiem is to first bless the souls of those who mourn, and certainly to bless the souls of those who have left us, but it is also very much about a community coming together to celebrate the great works and accomplishments that live on."

Rick Hendrick BMW, one of the leading BMW car dealers in South Carolina, Charleston, has always been proud to associate itself with community services where this concert is all about a community coming together.
