  • Austin-San Marcos, TX (1888PressRelease) June 25, 2011 - The consulting firm McKinsey & Company has released a report of the magnitude of the efficiency potential in non-transportation uses of energy in the United States.

The research shows that the US economy has the potential to reduce annual non-transportation energy consumption by roughly 23 percent by 2020, eliminating more than $1.2 trillion in waste-well beyond the $520 billion upfront investment (not including program costs) that would be required. The reduction in energy use would also result in the abatement of 1.1 gigatons of greenhouse-gas emissions annually-the equivalent of taking the entire US fleet of passenger vehicles and light trucks off the roads.

A portion of these savings would come from investments made to make home heating and cooling more energy efficient. Green Collar Operations, a home energy efficiency company operating in Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Waco and San Antonio, currently makes these efficiency upgrades on homes by taking advantage of rebates offered by local energy companies. These rebates are a small part of the large national investment required to reduce the energy consumption of the United States by the estimate made by McKinsey.

"Our customers appreciate the lower utility bills, the utility company doesn't have to invest in as many new energy sources, and less pollution is released to the environment," said Jacob Lohman, Director of Marketing at Green Collar Operations. "Efficiency upgrades are a winning situation for everyone involved."
