Renowned World Cycling Champion George Hincapie To Participate in Bike Virginia Tour 2015

George Hincapie, one of the most highly recognized cyclists in the world, will join The Bike Virginia Tour for part of The Highlands Expedition scheduled for June 26-July 1.

    "We are absolutely thrilled to have someone as accomplished as George join us during part of this year's Tour," said Bike Virginia Executive Director Dr. Kim Perry. "During his 19 year professional cycling career, George was regarded as the premier American classics rider of his generation. And while he's participated in - and won - numerous cycling events all over the world, he is probably best known for his role as an outstanding teammate and leader. We feel very privileged to have him join us at this year's Tour, and I know our riders will enjoy talking with him about his experiences."

    Hincapie rode in the Tour de France 17 times and won three US National Road Race Championships. He also competed in a record 17 Ronde van Vlaanderen races, and finished second at the grueling Paris-Roubaiz, the best ever for any American.

    Hincapie will be available to meet and greet the Tour's registered riders the evening of Saturday, June 27 and will ride with the Tour's cyclists on Sunday, June 28.

    The 2015 Tour, which marks the 28th year of the event, will take place in the beautiful Highlands region of Virginia and neighboring Tennessee. The Tour features 1,600 cyclists of all skills and abilities for up to six days of touring in and around beautiful and historic communities. The first camp location will be located in scenic Abingdon, Virginia, and the second campsite will be near the North Carolina border in Kingsport, Tennessee.

    Cyclists can choose to ride for up to six fun-filled days of breathtaking scenery, camaraderie and fun. Each day, riders have a choice of routes varying in difficulty, with rides available for every skill level. The campsites are a festive and happening place, with numerous food trucks to please every palate, live music each night, shuttles to nearby shopping, activities and historic sites, and more.
