  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) February 15, 2015 - Well-known comic book illustrator Jerry DeCaire recently visited New York's Rebecca School. The Rebecca School, which provides education for children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders, welcomed DeCaire as a guest speaker at the school's comic book club last month.

DeCaire presented the comic book club's members with a presentation entitled "Science of the Superhero". During the presentation, DeCaire demonstrated the mathematics and concepts that are used in comic book design. In real-time, DeCaire showed students the transformation of cubes into legendary comic book characters. The demonstration was highly applauded by the students, who asked DeCaire to create their favorite characters from three dimensional shapes. DeCaire signed each of the creations for the students to have as keepsakes.

DeCaire currently presents "Science of the Superhero" for preschool and lower elementary, upper elementary, and high school classes. He carefully presents age-appropriate, fun demonstrations that show how geometric figures are the foundation for creating a superhero. All artwork created during the presentations is signed and given away after the presentations.

The Rebecca School welcomed DeCaire to host his presentation for their comic book club. The Rebecca School promotes education and development of children with neurodevelopmental delays of relating and communicating, and the school works with children ages 4 to 21. The school works to provide tailored education per each child's specific needs by focusing on individual motor and sensory processing. The students of Rebecca School were completley engaged and were interested in learning as much as they could about their special guest and his amazing work. About Rebecca School
The Rebecca School utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to address autistic students' core deficits of relating and communication. Founded in 2005, the Rebecca School is a state of the art facility built specifically for working with the children the school serves that includes large sensory gyms, multiple art and music rooms, large sunny classrooms with smart boards and amplification systems and a rooftop playground. The Rebecca School utilizes the DIRŪ model - DIRŪ stands for Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship-based learning. The term originates from the work of Dr. Stanley Greenspan and Serena Wieder, Ph.D. who studied high risk children during the 1980's. They created DIRŪ as a familial systematic developmental intervention approach that includes Floortime play-based type intervention.
