  • (1888PressRelease) May 17, 2013 - (Costa Mesa, CA) - One of the executives of Relay Fitness Group, an innovative company that manufacturers a new type of indoor cycle, won the Tour de Grove cycling race on May 11, 2013. Scott Eyler used the Evo Fitness Bike to help train for the competition and ended up in first place in Men's Cat 4/5.

"The course was pretty challenging, but I felt completely prepared for the event," said Scott Eyler, VP of Sales and Marketing for Relay Fitness Group. "I think my training, indoors and out, gave me a real advantage."

A spectator at the event described the harrowing race in detail:

"Cat 4/5s line up, 50 guys with expensive bikes and numbers pinned to their jerseys. Off they go; Scott comes through up near the front, staying out of the 15 mph headwind. Around again, he is hiding in third place. Around again, hiding in seventh. A solo break goes; he is patient and lets the suicide take place. Each time he goes past he is looking cool; saving it, biding his time.

Three laps to go, pace builds. Two laps to go, pace picks up; riders getting shelled off in one's and two's each lap, Scott hangs in. Bell lap, announcers going crazy, cow bells clanging, they vanish into the distance around the tight 120 degree turn number one. All eyes swing down toward turn three, the last hard carousel before the 250 yard sprint home.

The announcers rev it up, the crowd leans into the barricades to get first glimpse; and here they come! Flying around the turn, everyone burying themselves, it's a mad dash for the line with 100 yards to go; a rider has a gap, two bike lengths, now three. He is in the drops cranking, massive wattage surging through his machine. He hits the line with a solid 5-bike length lead to win as the announcer screams "number 627 Scott Eyler from Ellisville Mo takes the win!" The crowd goes crazy! Especially some dude on crutches who screamed like a girl. Scott had just won a hundred bucks, a 1st place medal and best of all - a double smooch from the hot trophy girls."

The Tour de Grove encompassed three events spanning three days, it included the Midtown Rally Grand Prix in the Locust Business District, the Tour de Grove in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood, and the Dutch Town Classic in South St. Louis. The event is one of only 29 in the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar.

The Evo Fitness Bike, which Scott Eyler used to help him train for the Tour de Grove, utilizes a unique sway frame that pivots with the natural pedaling motion of the rider. This is intended to create a more realistic ride, thereby making an easier transition from indoor to outdoor cycling.
