  • Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) August 24, 2023 - The Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization is proud to announce a special screening of the documentary “Man in Red Bandana” at the Fort Harrison on Saturday September 9th. “Man in Red Bandana” is one of the featured films on Scientology TV’s Documentary Showcase. The event begins at 5:30pm and there is no cost to attend. Guests must RSVP to confirm their seats.

    “Man in Red Bandana” documents the story of Welles Remy Crowther. Crowther saved the lives of at least ten people from the World Trade Center on 9/11, at the cost of his own life. His courage and bravery has gone on to inspire thousands around the world.

    The film was made by attorney and entrepreneur Matthew J. Weiss and is his first feature film. Mr. Weiss researched, wrote, directed and produced the film. Mr. Weiss was inspired to make this film after hearing Welles’ story from Jefferson Crowther, Welles’ father,. At the time, Mr. Crowther was Weiss’ personal banker.

    “On September 11, 2001, the world witnessed horrific evil,” said Lisa Mansell, from the Public Affairs Department of the Church of Scientology. “But on that day, the world also witnessed countless stories of bravery, fearlessness, leadership and compassion. ‘The Man in Red Bandana’ is one such remarkable story and shows how selfless acts can leave a lasting legacy.”

    The doors to the Fort Harrison Auditorium will open at 5:30 and a buffet dinner served. The film will screen at 6:30pm. Donations can be made to the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, a non-profit founded by the Crowther family in 2001 to support, assist and inspire other young people.

    The Fort Harrison is located at 210 S. Fort Harrison Ave. in downtown Clearwater.
