  • (1888PressRelease) October 22, 2011 - Although electric vehicles may be conquering the roads slowly, the necessary technology for fast and intelligent charging that is gentle on the power network is already available and ready to be used nationwide. RWE Effizienz GmbH will present its system solutions at the third leading international trade fair for electromobility eCarTec 2011 in Munich. The Dortmund-based infrastructure supplier will present a broad range of intelligent charging technologies and associated services that are already in everyday use in many European cities to the public and the private sector.

“The many new products that were presented at the IAA has clearly demonstrated that electromobility is reaching maturity and entering a new phase: the rollout”, explains Ingo Alphéus, Chairman of the Board of RWE Effizienz GmbH. “We have gathered plenty of experience over the course of three years in close collaboration with well-known car manufacturers. And that’s not all: 1,300 charging points have already been installed, from the simple and quick charging box for the home garage to the superfast public electricity charging station by the motorway. Including integration into infrastructure management and billing systems and features such as automatic authorisation and integration into vehicle navigation software.”

Another obstacle on the way to the spread of electromobility was removed by the Dortmund-based infrastructure service provider in cooperation with mobile communications provider Vodafone. Until now, it was difficult for electric car drivers to access public charging stations where no contact exists between customer and operator or that are not part of a roaming network. Starting in the first quarter of 2012, all public RWE charging stations allow you to simply and easily pay by SMS. All the customer has to do is send an SMS including charging station number and charging time to a German-wide uniform telephone number. All mobile phone providers allow payments by SMS. The amount due is simply added to the next phone bill.

The company is also offering the new product RWE ePower for automotive electricity customers. The new contract runs for 12 months and includes a 12-month price guarantee. All RWE automotive electricity customers will now have access to the public RWE charging stations and all charging stations of the eRoaming partners.

RWE Effizienz managed to gain valuable experience for the setup of the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles during the realisation of many high-profile international city projects. The company has already installed around 150 charging points in Berlin and the RWE subsidiary Essent received a large order in 2011 for the installation of at least 250 charging points in Amsterdam, which may include up to 750 of the planned 1,000 public charging points. RWE’s range of services includes not just installation, but also all IT services from charging station administration to billing. The network competence of RWE as an energy supplier plays an important part in setting up and running the charging systems in a way that is gentle on the power networks. By 2015, 10,000 electric vehicles will get their electricity from public charging stations in Amsterdam.

The infrastructure provider gives an overview of the already available and upcoming electromobility solutions in hall A4, stand 102. Visitors will have the chance to experience electric vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf, the Renault Fluence Z.E. and the Brabus Full Electric Limousine in combination with intelligent charging technology. The company will exhibit wall-hung and free-standing boxes, both in their “Smart” and “Easy” version, which meet many different customer needs regarding charging capacity, number of charging stations as well as billing and access options. A technical highlight is the “Combi Station”, which offers the conventional alternating current (AC) as well as superfast charging with direct current (DC). The latter allows electric cars to be charged up to twelve times faster than using a domestic electric socket.
