Ransford Environmental Solutions, a Worcester pest company was granted a woman owned business enterprise certification by the state of Massachusetts. Ransford is one of the oldest pest control companies in the US and has always been locally owned.

Ransford has long been the name to know in Worcester, Massachusetts pest control( http://ransfordpc.com/ ). Initially founded in 1896, it's one of the oldest pest control companies in the United States, and it has always been locally owned.
As Maria Anderson Richmond took over for her father last year, her goal was not only to keep the high standards for the company that has been in place for decades, but also to move the company forward. By not only specializing in Integrated Pest Management solutions to help make Ransford's approach to pest control a bit greener, but also applying for the Woman Owned Business Enterprise certification.
It is not hard to find a company looking for a way to set themselves apart from the competition these days. Ransford's new certification gives them a chance to compete for contracts from the government and some public corporations. Many of these organizations have to designate a certain percentage of their business to women-owned companies, and this certification can help Ransford compete for those dollars.
Certification, though, was not an overnight process, and it was not easy. Ransford Pest Control had to pull hundreds of pages of paperwork and demonstrate their business success to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office.
"Getting this certification took quite a bit of work on our part. You have to demonstrate that you are owned and operated by a woman as well as meet a number of other requirements. They scrutinize everything pretty carefully," said Mrs. Richmond.
On April 1st, Ransford is also opening a second location at 139 Lincoln St. in Framingham MA, next to MetroWest Hospital. This location will shorten our response time to our Commercial, Industrial and Residential pest control customers( http://ransfordpc.com/residential-pest-control/ ) in the MetroWest area.
