Rally for the Cure is a huge success at Scottsdale Private Golf Club

  • (1888PressRelease) February 14, 2012 - Scottsdale, Ariz - Decked out in pink, the day at Scottsdale Golf Club included golf, dinner and a silent auction. There were 100 participants who generously opened their pocketbooks for this good cause. The Scottsdale Private Golf Club elected to have these dollars remain in the Phoenix community to benefit women who cannot afford mammograms or breast cancer treatment. Scottsdale Private Golf Club felt it was important to keep these funds local.

    This was the 10th year that The Country Club at DC Ranch, a Scottsdale Private Golf Club, has part pated in Rally for the Cure. The event was Co-chaired by Maxine Urheim and Janice Werz, "I was so impressed with how much money we were able to raise this year by our generous members at the Club. It exemplifies how kind and giving our members at the Scottsdale Private Golf Club truly are" states Maxine Urheim.

    Rally for the CureŽ is a grassroots program that works to spread awareness about breast health and breast cancer in support of Susan G. Komen for the CureŽ. The mission is to empower people to join the fight against breast cancer by educating their friends, family and community on the importance of early detection through an activity they are passionate about.

    Most people chose to Rally through golf or tennis. However the program is easily adaptable to other activities such as, bridge, bunco, mahjong and other fitness pursuits like yoga, spinning and swimming. In the United States, a woman has a one in eight chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime. That is one out of eight mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, friends, co-workers, community members. When detected early, before it spreads beyond the breast, the five-year survival rate is 98%. These figures underscore the importance of early detection, which can only happen when women are aware of what they must do on a regular basis.
