  • (1888PressRelease) June 09, 2012 - Manchester City football team captain, Vincent Kompany, today visited Taarana, a school for children with special educational needs, as part of a personal tour of Malaysia.

His visit to Taarana was supported by QNET, a global direct selling company whose CSR arm, Vijayaratnam Foundation (VF), established the school.

During the visit to Taarana at Taman OUG here, Kompany, 26, held a football clinic with the children, aged between six and 12, who face challenges with delayed development in academic, social and adaptive skills, also known as Mild Intellectual Disability (MID).

After the press conference later, the defensive midfield and centre back player said: "I love kids. I have a two-year-old daughter of my own, so I am always happy to spend time with children, especially those at Taarana.

"I am amazed at the dedication of the teachers here and congratulate Vijayaratnam Foundation for having opened the school, which I understand is one of the first of its kind in Malaysia."

In welcoming Kompany, VF founder and managing trustee, Datuk Vijay Eswaran, said QNET had always been involved in sports and recognises the beneficial effect it can have on worthy causes.

"Sports is the most liberating of all endevaours. It allows one to rise to one's greatest heights. Through sport, we celebrate both the championship of success that QNET stands for and the victory of the human spirit over its trials and tribulations which Taarana stands for.

"Naturally we are grateful to Vincent for being here today, but more so because he epitomises championship. We are happy that he lends his luster of championship to QNET and his passion and spirit to the children of Taarana,"said Vijay.

Kompany also posed alongside fans and the Marussia F1 Team show car which was raced in the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. QNET, which is a Marussia F1 Team sponsor had displayed the car at Taraana to spark the children's interest in F1.
