Program Announced for the 2014 Independent Film Quarterly Film and Webisode Festival

  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) August 09, 2014 - Independent Film Quarterly Film & Webisode Festival today announced their lineup of features, shorts, webisodes and seminars, taking place August 14-16 at Raleigh Studios, 5300 Melrose Ave, Hollywood, CA (Chaplin Building). The opening night red carpet party will take place at Beverly Hills hotspot 424 Beverly Hills (424 N. Beverly Dr., Beverly Hills, CA 90210) on August 14 from 8-11pm and will welcome participating filmmakers, screenwriters and film industry. Awards will be handed out to a selection of filmmakers and actors for the contribution to indie films. Actress Bai Ling (The Crow) is confirmed to attend opening night.

    Now in its fourth year, the festival's mission is to showcase a diverse range of features, shorts, and entertaining webisodes. Festival director Shawn Lukaszewicz commented, "We are really looking forward to welcoming the brightest filmmakers and screenwriters along with respected industry professionals and film enthusiasts to our event." Lukaszewicz continued, "Our objective is to program quality content, give filmmakers a platform to showcase their work, win awards, and attendees get an opportunity to watch great indie films."

    - White Dwarf - Closing Night Film: 95min. Comedy Drama. USA.

    - A blend of story, documentary, of cinema and verite that examines the culture of Hollywood when shooting stars eventually lose their luster. The film chronicles a day (and night) in the life of Gregory, a couch-surfing aspiring actor, his group of 'industry' friends and the false lives they lead. Directed by Ryan Fox.
    Cast: Anil Raman, Brock Kelly (Pitch Perfect), Carlos Miranda (The Bling Ring), Jessie Andrews, Lance Bass (NSYNC) and Ryan Rottman (90210).

    - The Algerian: 99min. Thriller/Action. Algeria/USA. An international political thriller about the colliding worlds of the Middle East and America. It follows Ali (Ben Youcef), a Muslim sleeper cell from Algeria who is part of a plot to harm America. Hiding in Los Angeles as a university student, his life spins out of control as he becomes involved with the very people he was sent to destroy. The film races across the globe from Algeria to New York, to Las Vegas and Los Angeles, culminating in a surprise ending that will have audiences buzzing. Directed by Giovanni Zelko.

    Stories Forlorn: 125min. Crime Drama/Coming of Age. Hong Kong. Based on a true story, Stories Forlorn centers around a sixteen year old aspiring writer, who is struggling to find answers to his brother's questionable suicide. He is lured into the underground world of Hong Kong, as the Chinese march their way over the border during the last summer under British rule, 1997. Directed by Uri L. Schwarz and Jason A. Sankey.

    Stuart Alson, CEO of leading indie film distribution company, ITN Distribution Inc. will host an informative seminar to educate filmmakers on the fundamentals of foreign and domestic distribution. The session, which will include a Q and A, will take place at the Fairbanks Theatre (Raleigh Studios) on Saturday, August 16 from 2-4pm.

    This year's screenplay semi-finalists are Cause written by David J. Schroeder; The Abyss of Pain written by David Sabbath; The Night Witches written by Steven Prowse; Ring Bearers written by P.W. Gaven; Troublesome Creek written by Wesley Mullins and Grace written by Jeffrey Allen Russel and Lynda Lemberg.
