    Biographies:
    Yue Minjun:
Born in 1962 in Heilongjiang province in the cold northeast of China, he graduated from the oil painting department of Hebei Normal University.

Paintings by Yue Minjun are easy to recognize. The artist's landmarks are depictions of men in strong pink flesh tones with always the same grinning faces, over-dimensioned teeth and a kind of expression. In the art scene this figure has become well know as the Silly Man. Yue Minjun uses his own face and body as a model.

First his brother takes photos of him in certain poses that the artist later uses instead of real models.Yue Minjun paints for around one to two months on one painting. Many of the new Chinese top artists now use helpers in their studio.

    Takashi Murakami
Born 1 February 1962 in Tokyo, is a prolific contemporary Japanese artist who works in both fine arts media, such as painting, as well as digital and commercial media. He attempts to blur the boundaries between high and low art. He appropriates popular themes from mass media and pop culture and then turns them into thirty-foot sculptures, "Superflat" paintings, or marketable commercial goods such as figurines or phone caddies.

    Zhang Xiao Gang:
Zhang Xiaogang trained as an oil painter at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1982. He joined a group of young avant-garde artists who came to international prominence during the 1980s.Since 1993 Zhang Xiaogang has been working on the Big Family series - works inspired by old family photos.

Zhang creates a sense of nostalgia in his compositions by utilising the conventions of the traditional Chinese photographer. Like his photographic predecessors, he uses dramatic lighting effects and flat anonymous backgrounds to idealise his subjects. In this work, the figures are painted with a smooth pearly finish reminiscent of porcelain.

    Yayoi Kusama:
Born in 1929 in Matsumoto, Japan, Kusama briefly studied painting in Kyoto before moving to New York City in the late 1950s. Since her first solo show in her native Japan in 1952, the artist's work has been featured widely in both solo and group presentations.

Yayoi Kusama is one of the most exciting and prolific artists working today She started to paint using polka dots and nets as motifs at around age ten ,and created fantastic paintings in watercolors, pastels and oils.

Her work has transcended two of the most important art movements of the second half of the twentieth century, pop art and minimalism. Her extraordinary and highly influential career spans paintings, performances, room-size presentations, outdoor sculptural installations, literary works, films, fashion, design, and interventions within existing architectural structures, which allude at once to microscopic and macroscopic universes.
