  • (1888PressRelease) May 26, 2011 - The newest member in the Prius family of vehicles is set to arrive in dealerships later this year. The Prius v will combine the fuel efficiency the popular hybrids are known for with a more family-friendly size.

The "V" in Prius v stands for versatility, which is obvious right off the bat. The car comfortably seats five and offers more cargo space than 80% of small SUVs, all while receiving EPA fuel economy ratings of 44 mpg city, 40 mpg highway, and 42 mpg combined. This creates the perfect vehicle for customers who want the advantages of a hybrid but need to the space of a larger vehicle.

Spaciousness and fuel efficiency are not the only perks of the Prius v. The new car also boasts enhanced connectivity features and state-of-the-art electronics. The standard audio system features six speakers a 6.1-inch screen for the Display Audio System, which also shows fuel consumption data and serves as the monitor for the integrated backup camera. A Bluetooth wireless connection for hands-free calling also comes standard, along with an automatic phone book transfer and USB Port.

The Prius v will also serve as one of the first Toyota models to offer the much-anticipated Entune multimedia system. This system leverages smartphones to create a unique in-vehicle experience, with access to navigation, information, and entertainment services. Some of the mobile apps that are supported by Entune include weather, traffic, sports, OpenTable, and music.

However, as a hybrid, the main focus of the Prius v will remain efficiency, which is enhanced by the hybrid's sleek and aerodynamic design. The cabin and roof were carefully designed to lead to an optimized cabin-end shape, which combines with side "aerocorners" to create exceptional airflow. Foam-injected door panels also help reduce the weight of the Prius v by approximately 20 percent.
