  • (1888PressRelease) November 16, 2010 - EHR Scope and EHRtv thought we would see how things went in San Francisco with Practice Fusion's first ever user conference: Connect 2010. The attendees ranged from Physicians, Practitioners and HIT professionals. In total there were roughly 200 attendees. As stated at the Practice Fusion site; the main purpose of this event was to discuss, train and establish relationships with current users and those curious about the EHR.

The activities included multiple sessions. Some of the more notable presentations centered around subject matter regarding Meaningful Use, VoIP adaptation, E-faxing and other peripherals for their EMR. A person who was present at the conference mentioned the ways in which practice fusion had created a direct cost savings of well over $8k per year on paper charts, not including savings through the integrated e-faxing system. Beyond paper-free issues, Practice Fusion is a member of Surescripts' massive e-prescribing network which is quickly becoming an industry standard.
Also at the conference was a representative of EXAQ inc. This particular rep is a friend of EHR Scope and was on hand to train and explain how some of Nuance Communication's voice recognition software is added into EHRs like Practice Fusion. As many attendees were of smaller private practice origins, Dragon Medical is the individual practice application of Nuance's technology.

EHRtv put together a quick video demonstrating this interaction:

Of course, for many larger hospitals and healthcare systems, Nuance's technology is basically a prerequisite for any new or large scale EHR adaptation. VR is definitely in demand for physicians who are used to dictation and transcription. EHRtv posted a video today regarding this as well

The axis of focus at the conference was cost savings through new technology. This is one of Practice Fusion's strong suites in that it is a web-based system; free of charge. While other EHRs have more integrated services and development advantages, Practice Fusion has carved out a niche by giving the option to dive into the EHR space, without breaking out the checkbook. For the more tentative EHR adopter these free EHRs are a good starting point as long as they keep up with meaningful use rules. In the case of this EHR, ONC-ATCB Modular Certification was granted some weeks ago and plans are in operation to attain complete certification in the future.

What conference is complete without forward looking announcements? Some announcements touched on new mobility services developed for use with the various tablet PCs on the market. Examples for use with iPad and even a Google android tablet were on hand. In addition, their goals for 2011 include a more PHR centric API for streamlined patient-doc interaction when e-prescribing. And finally, to boast a bit about their customer-base, they benchmarked their network at 5 million user accounts and growing. Images from the event can be found here.
