  • (1888PressRelease) November 18, 2011 - At the annual Relais & Châteaux congress in Lisbon, there was a gathering of some of the world's most renowned and celebrated chefs. It was here that Peter Tempelhoff, Group Executive Chef for The Collection by Liz McGrath, was awarded the prestigious status of Grand Chef.

    Peter Tempelhoff joins fellow Grand Chef Margot Janse of Le Quartier Français and the late Franck Zlomke to become South Africa's third Grand Chef and Cape Town City's first!

I would like to think that it is going to become more of an expression of how I interpret Modernist Southern African Cuisine and less of an attempt to follow in current food trends and fads" adds Peter.

    Owner of The Cellars-Hohenort, Liz McGrath, has been a proud member of the Relais & Châteaux for 20 years this November. "I can't think of a bigger honour to celebrate my 20 years with Relais & Châteaux than being awarded Grand Chef status. It is what we have dreamed of for many, many years!     The Greenhouse, the flagship restaurant of The Collection by Liz McGrath, is open from Tuesday to Saturday in the evenings. Guests can choose to experience a 7 course tasting menu or they can create their own 4 course menu.

    "This summer we unite quail, nasturtiums and green almonds together in a dish, as well as roast duck, bergamot and mulberries. Desserts are moving a little towards vegetables, with a combination of white asparagus, raspberries & chamomile, one featuring butternut, lime and coconut and another with smoked chocolate, candy cane beetroot and cherries.
