About Paola Saibene
Paola Saibene has been in IT for over 20 years, having held multiple CIO/CTO/CSO/Global Privacy Officer positions in large, multi-billion dollar organizations. She has worked in government writ-large, and in the private and non-profit sectors, such as industrial manufacturing, education, health, finance, software development, and transportation. Within the digital transformation journey, Paola has advanced, in parallel, cyber security, privacy, compliance, and overall risk management efforts, receiving multiple awards, including a special government commendation for her cyber security efforts. She teaches the Master’s Program in Information Security at Dallas Baptist University, focusing on an ecosystem/holistic approach that blends cyber, privacy, pre-audit, governance, and compliance, yielding sustainability and a stronger risk management culture. Presently, Paola works for the American Heart Association, as the Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management.
Abstract
For as long as we can remember security and privacy have largely been separate functions. However, in today’s data-centric world the lines are beginning to blur as both are concerned about unauthorized access to data. To reduce the risk to data you have to understand who is accessing what data, when. Organizations are no longer only responsible for making sure their data is secure from breaches, but they must also understand who within their organization should even be able to have access to specific sensitive data.
