  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) April 03, 2012 - Singer, songwriter, and musician, The Bones of J.R. Jones announces his residency at Pete's Candy Store in Brooklyn, NY starting April 4th and every remaining Wednesday that month. These shows coincide with his recently released EP, The Wildness, which is currently available on iTunes. The self-released debut EP is a reckoning of one's shortcomings and lesser half; a combination of stripped-down rustic lullabies and the irresistible force of stomp blues in which J.R. wistfully captivates the listener from the first track to the last. The inspiration of his music is explained by his sentiment "the more unsavory desires and wants in your life - those demons and devils [will] haunt you" which accurately seeps through each song.

His music adeptly toes the line between folk and sorrowful lullabies, to dirty, grainy, blues-influenced songs. Pulling from his strong sense of home and desire to return to it, J.R.'s voice communicates a level of intimacy and passion that carries with it a quiet sense of loss, yearning, and wanting.

J.R.'s live shows are visually impressive as he takes the stage with a kick drum and a high-hat, switching between his guitar and banjo (occasionally with his harmonica or kazoo). Combined with his longing vocals, it makes for a powerful and dynamic display that showcases his musical and emotional range.

Discovered and supported by Peter Buffett, an award-winning musician in his own right, J.R. was able to work with industry professionals such as Nic Hard (The Bravery, The Kin) to produce his first EP. The Bones of J.R. Jones also showcases his range in artistic capability with the video for the second track on his EP, "La La Liar". He worked with director Ian Cinco (most recent project, a music video for The Felice Brothers) and an extensive crew to create a truly unique portrayal of his song.

After playing one show at Pete's Candy Store, a Brooklyn bar and venue that lends itself as a launching pad for Brooklyn musicians, they promptly asked him to return for a month long residency. In addition to the residency, J.R. has also been performing monthly at the Hudson Clearwater, a New York Magazine's "Critic's Pick" restaurant in the West Village. With this exposure, emerging designer Phillip Lim not only became a regular at these shows but also plans on collaborating with J.R. in future artistic endeavors.

ABOUT THE BONES OF J.R. JONES
Born and raised in central New York, in a house at the end of a long dirt road, J.R. started dabbling in music at the tender age of six. His mother mandated - as she did with his older and younger brothers - that he take piano lessons and he continued to teach himself guitar and banjo. J.R.'s fondness for old gospel hymns, bluesmen like Son House and R.L. Burnside, and artists like The Carter Family and Tom Waits, helped shape his sound which has been described as "haunting stomp blues tempered with a touch of honey."
