NUAA Developed Superfine Aircraft Grade Glass Fibre with Han Jiang Group
NUAA developed superfine aircraft grade glass wool with Han Jiang Group, this new material has the properties of light-weight, sound absorption, eco-friendly and thermal insulation. It has already been applied to C919 aircraft.
- Albuquerque, NM (1888PressRelease) February 16, 2018 - The much-anticipated C919, a single-aisle homegrown passenger jet, has taken to the skies for a debut flight on May 5, 2017. The first-time occasion will occur at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport, according to the Shanghai-based manufacturer of the C919, Commercial Aircraft Corp of China (COMAC).
The superfine aircraft grade glass wool fibre adopted in C919 cabin is developed by Professor Chen Zhaofeng and his team of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics(NUAA) together with Han Jiang Group. The thermal insulation and sound absorption property of the superfine aircraft grade glass wool is 10% higher than that of the standard made by Boeing Company, which is the most advanced in the world.
According to Chen’s introduction, the diameter of superfine aircraft grade glass wool fibre is only 2-4 micrometer. It is soft as the cotton without irritate for human body, and very light weight. It is not only enables superfine aircraft grade glass wool fibre to have lower thermal conductivity coefficient and better thermal insulation, but also decrease the thickness of insulating layer.
“The refrigerator’s door needs some space to place thermal insulation material, so the traditional refrigerator is always having a thick door.” Chen says, “If put this superfine glass wool fibre inside refrigerator’s door, it will greatly reduce the thickness and improve refrigerator’s cooling efficiency.”
It is understood that this aircraft grade glass wool fibre will be affixed to the cabin for sound insulation and thermal insulation. Its sound insulation properties can help aircraft to reduce noise and improve the comfort of passengers inside the aircraft. At the same time, excellent thermal insulation properties make the aircraft reduce energy consumption and fuel consumption, which improves aircraft economy and competitiveness in international market.
