  • (1888PressRelease) August 13, 2012 - On August 10, 2012 the National Film Development Corporation Ltd. (NFDC) in association with PVR 'Directors Rare' will theatrically release its Punjabi feature Anhey Ghorhey Da Daan (Alms for a Blind Horse) directed by the National Award winning debut filmmaker, Gurvinder Singh, across Delhi, Mumbai, Jalandhar & Ludhiana.

Anhey Ghorhey Da Daanis based on Punjabi novelist and Jnanpeeth Award winner Professor Gurdial Singh's novel. The film brings to screen the effect that years of subordination can bring to struggling masses in the face of events spinning beyond their control. Devoid of the power to change course of their own destiny and the invisible violence of power equations, Anhey Ghorhey Da Daanreflects the simmering discontent etched on their faces.

By producing Anhey Ghorhey Da Daan, helmed by a debutant filmmaker and shot by a first time Cinematographer, NFDC has continued with its mission to develop and promotenew talent within the film industry. Further, with a view to ensure higher standards of filmmaking, NFDC requested the late master, Mani Kaul, to be the Creative Producer of this film. The institution of the concept of mentorship for new filmmakers is perhaps a unique initiative in the Industry.

NFDC will release the film with PVR Directors Rare on August 10, 2012, which is a recently launched alternative programming initiative of PVR Cinemas that releases critically, acclaimed, independent films. This initiative gives fillip to NFDC's continuous endeavor to produce and distribute artistic movies that not only showcase the various 'Cinemas of India' but also reflects India's most imaginative, diverse and vibrant film culture.

Says Ms Nina Lath Gupta, M.D. NFDC "With the release of Anhey Ghorhey Da Daan, we are delivering on our promise to build the brand Cinemas of India, which endorses deserving independent & art house cinema across India and in doing so, we showcase to Indian audiences the diversity that exists in Indian Cinema. We are happy to be partnering with PVR in bringing critically acclaimed films to our audiences."
