  • Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) November 15, 2012 - Bright colored lights, decorations, iconic figures like Santa Claus and his reindeer….these are images commonly associated with the holiday season that are imbedded in our minds. But what do the holidays mean for the visually impaired? Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort will sponsor an event for students from the Blind Children's Learning Center so that they can fully experience the holidays using their senses of touch, smell and hearing. The sensory exercise will be held on Friday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. Among the activities:

    · Ornament making that allows the children to feel the shapes and textures of beads, sand, glitter, paint and various other craft materials to create their own unique designs.

    · An exploration of the Christmas tree lot which includes brushing against the branches, taking in the crisp fragrance of the firs and picking out their own tree to hang their newly crafted ornaments on.

    · Singing Christmas carols atop a hayride.

    · Sitting on Santa's lap, feeling his beard, listening to his kind, soothing voice and feeling the velvety fabric of his suit.

    · Enjoying a festive lunch.

"We have worked with the Blind Children's Learning Center for years and our holiday event has become one of the most anticipated celebrations we host all year," said Andrew Theodorou, vice president & general manager of Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort. "We hope that this sensory experience will bring the joy of the season to these deserving children."
