  • (1888PressRelease) August 12, 2011 - VODIAB, designed to give independent operators an alternative to traditional Video on Demand (VOD) deployments, now costs even less and features improvements to the product. New price reductions on hardware can save cable operators up to 38 percent on their capital investment in the service. Product changes include an increase in base storage capacity, as well as the ability for operators to add incremental storage to reach the full 3,300 hours of content available from VODIAB. When combined with the reduced pricing, the increased storage lowers the cost per viewable hour of VOD content up to 63 percent.

"The VOD In A Box solution makes Video on Demand more accessible to operators of all sizes," said Leslie Russell, Vice President & General Manger of HITS. "These latest product and pricing enhancements make it even more affordable for systems serving smaller markets to increase their competitive advantage and digital video revenue while building upon existing investments in MPEG-2 infrastructure."

"VOD In A Box is an innovative and cost-effective approach to help small and medium MSOs improve content monetization," said Neerav Shah, ARRIS VP Product Line Management, Media & Communication Systems. "Relying on customer feedback, we have added flexibility to enable operators to more easily scale their On Demand services. We are excited to build on our strong partnership with Comcast Media Center and HITS to meet the evolving needs of the market."

VODIAB allows cable operators to offer their customers a wider selection of digital video programming options and time-shifting capabilities that address content consumption demands and schedules. Jointly offered by HITS and ARRIS, VODIAB is a turnkey solution targeted at cable operators serving fewer than 25,000 digital video customers. It includes hardware, software, management and thousands of hours of HD and SD programming in a single service.
