  • Savannah, GA (1888PressRelease) September 11, 2010 - Demere NeSmith, Dealer Principal of NeSmith Chevrolet Buick GMC in Claxton, Georgia announced today that in accordance with the Education Board of Georgia, high school students who have logged 98% or better attendance records during the 2010-11 school year will qualify to win a brand new Chevy Cruze. High school seniors at more than 18 schools in the Savannah area and surrounding counties will be eligible for a chance to win. NeSmith Chevrolet has participated in this program for the past three years and is sponsoring two local high schools, Claxton High School and Tattnall High School.

Students that qualify with 98% or better attendance for the first 180 days of the school year will be invited to attend a special end of the year event to celebrate(date and location will be released once the venue has been secured). Attendance is determined by an eligible student's attendance record for the first 180 days of the 2010-11 school year as submitted by the Local Education Agencies. In order to select the winner, final lists are developed with eligible students from all participating schools. All qualified seniors must be present for the reverse drawing to win the Chevy Cruze and other prizes.

"Literacy and education are two initiatives that we at NeSmith Chevrolet support," said Demere Nesmith, of Nesmith Chevrolet. "The Local School Boards are charged with the significant task of educating the state's youth, and we are honored to provide support to them and high schools in our communities."

In its third year in Georgia, Chevy Drive for Perfection is an initiative presented by Chevrolet and the local Savannah Chevrolet Dealers in conjunction with the Local School Boards. The program was created to give seniors an additional incentive to finish their high school careers strong in order to adequately prepare for post-secondary education or the workforce. According to the US Department of Education, students who have poor attendance for reasons other than illness are also more likely to drop out and to fall behind their peers in the classroom.
