The group has initiated a first-time video competition among those with ADHD nationwide to share the trials and tribulations of the much misunderstood disorder. The submission deadline is August 30, 2012 at which time five finalist videos will be selected by a jury of industry experts. Those videos will then be open to a public vote on September 10-23, 2012 to determine the winning video, which will be announced on October 1, 2012.

"By coming up with this competition, we want to build on the camaraderie shared by those whose lives are impacted by this serious, often misunderstood and misdiagnosed illness; strengthen public awareness of how the problem affects more than 9% of children and 4% of adults in the US, and bring insight and humor to how people deal with and overcome their struggles," says coalition member Sarah D. Wright, founding board member of the ACO. Adds coalition and ADDA board member Zandra Maffet, "We also felt that a video competition had great synergy with our theme this year "The Many Faces of ADHD" and look forward to getting the entire national community involved in this effort."

Rick Green, creator of the documentary ADD & Loving it?!, has created a series of instructional videos with tips and tricks to help submissions look and sound great. As an extra bonus, early submissions that meet the judging criteria will be posted on The ADHDAwarenessWeek.org website, helping increase the odds of a video getting more votes. The Coalition is encouraging organization chapters, classes and groups of friends as well as individuals to work together to tell their stories and make the competition a fun, high profile and exciting success in supporting the cause.

Everybody who submits a video is eligible to win 1 of 10 subscriptions to ADDitude Magazine. The top 5 finalists each will win a prize package worth over $500 with the grand prize package worth over $1000. Details available at  ADHDAwarenessWeek.org.
