The awards were presented at a reception at Brier Creek Country Club on Oct. 6.

    In 2002, McFarlane launched MedPro Rx, and has led the pharmacy to be a multi-million dollar company over the past nine years. As president, she implemented a vision to create a pharmacy that would not only coordinate pharmaceutical care with existing community resources, but also serve as an advocate for the bleeding disorder community. MedPro Rx has several community outreach programs, including its "Education is Power" scholarship program. To date, the pharmacy has awarded nearly $300,000 in scholarship funds to students nationwide who are living with bleeding disorders.     McFarlane is also committed to her community and was elected to the Raleigh City Council in 2007. She is mayor pro tem for the City of Raleigh and is a candidate for the October 2011 mayoral race. As chair of the Council's Comprehensive Planning Committee and a member of the Budget and Economic Development Committee, she is active in campaigning for responsible development that protects not only the quality of life in Raleigh but also the environment. Nancy is also a liaison to the following organizations: Wake County Elected Officials Transit Work Group, Raleigh Arts Commission and United Arts Council, Upper Neuse Rivers Basin Association, Environmental Advisory Board, Substance Abuse Advisory Council, Storm Water Management Utility Commission, Triangle J Council of Governments, Water Advisory Committee, Sister Cities, and Wake County Schools. She is also involved with the Women's Forum of NC and the Women on Board Steering Committee.
