  • (1888PressRelease) February 15, 2012 - The year 2012 marks the 50th Anniversary for St. Jude Children's Hospital, the 100th birthday of its founder, Danny Thomas, and the third straight year that NAFA Fleet Management Association will hold a Silent Auction to benefit the hospital's mission of finding cures for cancer and other pediatric diseases through research and treatment. The auction will take place at the Association's 2012 Institute & Expo in St. Louis, MO, on April 22-23.

With an open invitation for I&E exhibitors to participate, the Silent Auction is both an opportunity to raise funds for the hospital's efforts and an effective way for exhibitors to attract attention to their booths and wares. One hundred percent of the Silent Auction proceeds will go directly to the hospital.

In 1962, Thomas founded St. Jude with a mission to save the lives of children everywhere. He fervently believed that "no child should die in the dawn of life." Thomas wanted to create a hopeful place that was accepting of all children whether or not the family could afford treatment.

Today, St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research hospital where no family is ever turned away due to an inability to pay nor ever has to pay for treatment. For fifty years, St. Jude has advanced treatment of such deadly childhood diseases as cancer, saving the lives of children across America. Research at St. Jude has changed how the world treats leukemia, brain tumors, and sickle cell disease, helping push survival rates for childhood cancers from less than twenty percent in 1962 to almost eighty percent today.

NAFA's Silent Auction has quickly become a traditional favorite of I&E attendees and a winning proposition for exhibitors. By donating an item to the auction, exhibitors gain added exposure on the expo floor and increase the amount of traffic to their booth as conference attendees stop by to take a closer look at the items they've placed up-for-bid. Examples of past items include Apple iPads, color HD televisions, snowboards, NASCAR fan packages, golf bags, netbooks, Nintendo Wii consoles, gas cards, and various gift certificates.

Organizations throughout the country are helping to celebrate Danny Thomas and the Hospital's anniversary this year. Perhaps most notably, the United States Postal Service recently unveiled a commemorative Forever Stamp honoring entertainer Thomas' years as actor and comedian alongside his notable humanitarianism.

In addition to helping St. Jude, NAFA also uses the I&E to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity each year via a special volunteer project in the host city of the conference. For more information on NAFA's 2012 I&E, please visit www.nafainstitute.org.
