  • (1888PressRelease) August 02, 2014 - Mussoorie International School celebrated its 30th Founder's Day to commemorate 30 remarkable years of legacy and success. MIS, as it is popularly known, is one of the country's oldest and most reputed educational institutions for girl students.

An Alumnae Homecoming organized on the eve of the Founder's Day kicked off the celebrations where alumnae were invited to come back to their alma mater and share this moment of pride with the school. Alumni shared their experiences of 'how it was back then' and also how the institute helped them to figure out what they wanted to be while guiding them through the steps to get there.

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Priya Peter Principal, MIS said, "Our students embody our school and its values. The worldwide network of MIS alumnae is proof of the potential and talent our students posses. It is natural that we begin our celebrations with the people who are a tribute to this institution's success. We look back with pride and accomplishment in educating children from all around the world. MIS has always remained true to its values and ethos and that is the reason we stand tall today, ready to take this journey forward for another 100 years."

The Founder's Day formally began with the traditional Havan followed by a tree plantation campaign. The Havan has remained an integral part of the Founder's Day celebrations since the school began. The mantras chanted today during the Havan were Geeta Upanishads, which is a part of the sixth book of Mahabharata. Parents, Students, Alumnae and staff all joined in the ceremonies. Following the Havan, an instrumental extravaganza involving 150 talented students of MIS used more than 20 instruments to create the raga Rajnikalyan.

A series of variety programmes were conducted by over 300 talented students that ranged from the junior school up to Class XII. Events planned for the day also included a Hindi Dance drama which was an immaculate rendition of "Maa Durga" in her different forms saving the world from disasters. This was followed by children singing Michael Jackson's "We Are the World" that reverberated with its message of peace and harmony among the audience.

Dr. Chona, Chairperson of MIS, congratulated the Principal on completing 30 successful years and emphasised that high standards of education and learning should remain the catalyst of the growth and progress of MIS. Shantanu Prakash, Trustee of MIS said that "It has been a rewarding experience to witness the growth of MIS over the years and most heartening to see Alumnae crediting MIS for their success and recalling with great fondness time they spent at the school." He wished all the best to everyone present and inspired the students to further strengthen the legacy of MIS.

Alumnae were generous in their praise of their alma mater. Megha Sharma, an alumnus of the 2001 batch, expressed joy to have had the opportunity to walk down memory lane by visiting the school campus. She also volunteered and organised a fashion show on the occasion. Swati Paliawal, another former student said "The phase of life I spent in the nurturing environment of MIS taught me life lessons such as responsibility, self discipline, confidence and resilience."
The school also launched a set of memorabilia which included MIS mugs, bags, sweat shirts and t-shirts for the students and alumni of the school. Everyone was seen happily clicking pictures with their friends. A highlight of the evening was the launch of the Alumnae Magazine - "The Glorious 30", which covered 30 stories of Alumnae spread all across the globe. This was greatly appreciated by everyone.
