  • (1888PressRelease) May 31, 2013 - The honor roll is based on clinical data provided by the federal Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) and collected between October 2011 and September 2012.

"This is a great accomplishment for MUMC," said Joseph Parker, president of GHA. "This recognition further underscores the commitment of the MUMC team to ensuring that every patient receives the best, most effective healthcare possible."

Hospitals are required to submit data to CMS that details how well they follow specific patient care measures. These measures are proven to be the most effective methods of treatment and result in the best outcomes. Hospitals must submit data for surgical patients and patients who have suffered heart attack, pneumonia, or heart failure. Memorial University Medical Center shares this data publicly on its website at memorialhealth.com/quality-data.aspx.

"We work hard every day to ensure that our patients receive effective, evidence-based care. This recognition from GHA reinforces that we are doing the right thing," said Maggie Gill, president and CEO of Memorial Health. "This honor is a tribute to our physicians and Team Members who are constantly working to make excellent care even better."

The GHA's Partnership for Health and Accountability, formed in January 2000, is a unique statewide collaborative that brings together healthcare providers with community agencies and individuals to achieve healthy communities. The Partnership for Health and Accountability includes representation from hospitals, physicians, state health officials, legislators, and businesses.

Memorial University Medical Center is a two-state healthcare organization serving a 35-county area in southeast Georgia and southern South Carolina. The system includes its flagship hospital, a 610-bed academic medical center; Memorial primary and specialty physician networks; a major medical education program; business and industry services; and NurseOne, a 24-hour call center.
