  • (1888PressRelease) December 21, 2011 - Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research hosted the Inaugural announcement of the Mumbai Bhushan, the 'Best' Housing Society competition along with a workshop that detailed the various facets of the competition at Welingkar Campus on Saturday, 17 Dec'2011. In the initiative Welingkar will work with the Yuvak Biradari and Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (MCHI).

    Mumbai Bhushan, the 'Best' Housing Society competition judges the best societies taken from all the six constituencies of Mumbai on basis of parameters like hygiene, security, disaster preparedness, administration and management, congeniality, welfare , water, energy, social awareness and similar others. It embraces all the six constituencies of Mumbai and has invited participation from them.

    Dr Uday Salunkhe , Group Director, Welingkar Education, welcomed the guests who included the Senior Journalist Kumar Ketkar, Shri Kranti Shah, Managing Trustee, Yuvak Biradari (Bharat) and the project Chairman, Shri Mohan Deshmukh, President MCHI and Shri Govind Swarup, Former Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra, Housing and. Special Assistance Department.

    Kumar Ketkar shared his views on the changing social dynamics in the Mumbai Society appreciating the social relevance and need of initiative like Mumbai Bhushan.

    WeSchool is associated with the Mumbai Bhushan "Best" Housing Society as the academic partner. WE School students, under the dynamic leadership of Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, Welingkar Education, will be actively participating in the event as they conduct social audits, will get a real life insight into citizens' psyche, will get a hands-on experience of societal issues regarding security, citizens' welfare, environmental concerns, etc and will contribute in making a positive contribution to society.

    Welingkars role in the project: The initiative requires student teams working along with eminent jury members to roll out the competition across various housing societies in Mumbai. The timeframe for the same will be between 26th December 2011 and 25th January 2012. Student volunteers will render their support for the initiative as members of the audit committees who will actually visit the housing societies during the course of the competition within the seven zones identified across Mumbai city. The result of these audits will lead to the winners being announced. We School has also helped to develop the various parameters of the competition

    Welingkar has joined hands with Yuvak Biradari on many socially relevant projects in the past. Project 'Udaan' for Entrepreneurship training to rural youth and Vasundhara Bachao ' -' Save the Earth campaigns are a few of these.

    Speaking on the occasion Dr Uday Salunkhe said, "The event would sensitize the students to their social responsibility and give a firsthand feel of societal issues regarding security, citizens' welfare, environmental concerns, etc and will contribute in making a positive contribution to society. Also this would strengthen the social fabric along with promoting camaraderie among people which seems to be a disappearing intangible in modern times."
    The Concept-Design of the Mumbai Bhushan has been conceived by Kranti Shah, Managing Trustee, Yuvak Biradari (Bharat) and the project Chairman is Mohan Deshmukh, President MCHI.
