  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) May 09, 2015 - Montclare Children's School, an acclaimed private preschool located in Manhattan, NYC, is prepared to host the first edition of the annual Montclare Film Festival from May 18th, 2015 to May 20th, 2015.

The film festival will showcase short film projects worked upon by the school's 4-year-olds with guidance from staff from Writopia Lab; a non-profit creative writing program for children of ages 4-18.

Families of Montclare Children's School's students are invited to the film festival during which three or four films from each of the three 4-year-olds' classrooms will be screened on each day. The short films have been shot by students with digital cameras, both hand-held and on tripods, and iPads and are three to six minutes in duration.

Montclare Children's School is a Manhattan preschool that caters to children of ages 2-4 with preschool curricula designed to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment to the children for their holistic growth and development.

According to a related blog post on the school's website, the Manhattan preschool approached parent and founder of Writopia Lab, with the desire to integrate developmentally-appropriate technology into the preschool curriculum for their students with the help of a pilot film-making program with a group of 4-year-olds. The program was quite a success with film-making being incorporated as an integral part of the preschool curriculum for four-year-olds from 2015 onwards.

The first film made during the pilot film-making program in 2014 was screened at Montclare Children's School's Curriculum Night in October, 2014. The film received positive response and the idea to organize a full-fledged film festival was theorized.

The films that will be screened during the film festival have been shot under the expert guidance of Writopia Lab staff members. According to them, children displayed tremendous excitement at the prospect of creating and telling narratives and making films.

Director of Communications at Montclare Children's School, states in the blog on the film festival that the film-making course is not only intended to offer children the chance to engage in the use of developmentally-appropriate technology but also boosts their pre-literacy skills. The forming of a narrative for the film involves storytelling as well as listening to stories. These activities develop the child's vocabulary and language, improve their listening and comprehension skills and expand their story-retention abilities.

Montclare Children's School is a centrally located preschool in Manhattan's Upper West Side that provides an enriched preschool curriculum that includes art, music, movement and yoga for their students. To know more about preschool in manhattan visit: http://www.montclareschool.org/about-us/
