  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) August 31, 2011 - Taap.it Mobile Marketplace was present at this year's freshman convocation event at NYC Baruch College. The event is held to welcome incoming first year students and induct them into Baruch's community of learners. Taap.it was there welcoming freshman with stickers and fliers that informed students of Taap.it but also the "Free Textbook Contest" Taap.it is having this semester. Taap.it is looking to buy lucky students textbooks this semester. "We want these students to use Taap.it for the next four years of school and beyond. And how great will it be if your first semester of college you didn't have to pay for books." said Duy Huynh, CEO and Co-founder of Taap.it.

The contest will begin September 1st, 2011 and will run through September 15th, 2011. To enter, a student has to download the free app from either the iPhone Store or Android Market. If they don't own a smart phone they can go online and use Taap.it's web based app at www.Taap.it. Sign up with Taap.it using the Facebook login option. And finally, post an item they might need for the upcoming school year in the "Wanted" section. It could be anything from a book to a laptop. Three random NYC contestants will be chosen. 1st prize winner will have all books for the semester paid for. 2nd prize winner will have some books paid for, the ones really needed. A 3rd prize winner will have the most important book of the semester paid for. "We want students to find out how simple it is to use and how fun Taap.it can be." said Duy.

With a new update geared to helping college students ease back to school. CEO Duy Huynh is looking to promote Taap.it at every school in the New York City region. In the next couple of weeks Taap.it will be attending NYU's and St. Johns' moving in day, as well as FIT's first day and Hunter College welcome back week. "If the college community accepts Taap.it that means we have something real good going on here. Hopefully they react well to it and like the work we've put together, especially to help them." said Duy.

The idea for Taap.it comes from the need to have a fast, simple, and instant way for local businesses to reach out to their local customers, which has not been fully addressed in the market. Right now when local businesses want to sell goods or services, they have to go through either the local newspaper (which is costly and slow) or an e-commerce site like eBay or Craigslist (which is a hassle because you need your computer to post). "Basically, within 15 seconds, you will be able to list the item you want to sell, which solves a pain point in the selling and sharing of services and goods to people just down the street," said Rip Empson, Editor at TechCrunch.

Taap.it Mobile Marketplace is located in Midtown Manhattan with more than 20 employees and continues to grow fast. It was founded by a group of friends, including Duy Huynh, Ha Tran, Tien Nguyen, and Bao Huynh. Taap.it launched its beta at TechCrunch Disrupt late May 2011, and officially launched early July 2011.
