  • (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2011 - The Australia Gas Conference 2011, co-hosted by the CWC Group and the International Gas Union (IGU), opens in Sydney next week, running from 31 October - 2 November 2011 at the Four Seasons Hotel.

The conference is the first international gas event to be held in Australia and welcomes senior Australian ministers from New South Wales Government, Government of South Australia, and Government of Western Australia, as well as international gas leaders from the region and across the globe. The event provides an important platform for key industry players to discuss groundbreaking projects currently in development in Australia, and the opportunities for domestic and international investment.

In a recent interview, Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim, President of the IGU commented "Australia has been successful in attracting some of the industry's largest players and has been the bedrock for the development of new technologies like Floating LNG, coal gasification and liquefaction". Hashim went on to add, "Australia has emerged as one of the world's leading international gas players ... I believe Australia is set to become one of the leading LNG exporters, with the potential of even surpassing Qatar".

Conference organiser CWC is established in promoting the development of the gas industry in the Asia Pacific region and across the world, and is the professional conference organisers for the World Gas Conference 2012 in Kuala Lumpur. They are also producers of the World LNG Series: Asia Pacific Summit held for the third year in Singapore last month. According to CWC Director, Tracy Clark, the group developed the Australia Gas conference to highlight the importance of this new gas province to the global energy markets and provide a platform to evaluate its impact on the market as a whole.

The Australia Gas Conference will be opened by Hon Chris Hartcher MP, Minister for Resources and Energy, Government of New South Wales on 31 October 2011. His official opening address will be followed by a range of presentations from senior executives from across the value chain including NSWALNG, Santos, Shell Australia, National Ministry of Land and Resources, China, ExxonMobil, Tokyo Gas, Gazprom Marketing and Trading Singapore, and many more.

As well as the topical conference content, the event also includes a coal seam gas Workshop, running on the 2 November, as well as numerous networking activities throughout including an evening cruise on the Sydney Harbour.
