MBAF's Tony Argiz Named 2011 Alumni of the Year by FIU's School of Accounting

  • (1888PressRelease) June 24, 2011 - MIAMI - The announcement was made at the School of Accounting's 2nd Annual Awards Banquet.

    Argiz received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and did graduate studies in Auditing and Taxation at FIU. He has continued his affiliation with the university since his departure as an active alumnus serving as a member of the FIU Foundation Board and on the School of Accounting Advisory Board. A fervent believer in education, he is immediate past chair of the board of trustees for Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. In the past, he served as chair of FIU's Council of 100 and as chair of the Miami Dade College Foundation.

    Additionally, he has actively served on leading industry associations, chairing many key committees in furtherance of the accounting industry. He has served on the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Nominations Committee, on the governing body of the AICPA's Council and on the PCP Executive Committee and its Technical Issues Committee. In 1986, Argiz was appointed to Florida's Board of Accountancy and was then elected to chair the Board and chair its Probable Cause Panel as well.

    Through the years, he has supported more than 100 charitable and civic organizations. He is an executive committee member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, a board member of AvMed Health Plans, the immediate past chair of the Orange Bowl Committee, and the past chair of the board of United Way of Miami-Dade. Argiz has also been honored for his charitable work and dedication by the South Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Miami Coalition of Christians and Jews, Israel Bonds as well as by the South Florida Business Journal as a Key Partner in Litigation and the South Florida Legal Guide as a Top CPA in Litigation.
