  • (1888PressRelease) September 30, 2010 - Puyallup, WA It seems as if many people are drawn to charismatic preachers on T.V. and it seems that cult like personality Master Prophet Ricky Reed ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XVWZW2bQ9c ) is no exception. It seems that this T.V. personality is garnering quite a mixed following; some believers and some critics. While many people seem drawn to this so-called Master Prophet, he might be more appropriately named Master "Profit" since he seems to be all about the money.

The interesting part is Pastor Dennis Cummins of ExperienceChurch.tv ( http://www.experiencechurch.tv ) located in South Hill-Puyallup, WA actually plays the part of Ricky Reed. "The Master Prophet Ricky Reed was birthed from an idea when I was watching some of the ridiculous scams that so called preachers and profits are using to bilk people out of the precious earned money" said Dennis Cummins. "Ricky Reed is a fictional character that we created to help expose these Charlton's and have some fun while doing it. I think it is time that someone really expose them for what they are doing."

J Lee Grady a contributing editor for Charisma & Christian Life magazine wrote and article called "Christian TV's All-Time Worst Fundraising Gimmicks," in August, 2010. He stated, "During the PBS telethon I wondered why Christian networks couldn't simply offer music, books or other premiums instead of resorting to the typical arm-twisting and tear-jerking that we've come to expect. We need an overhaul in this area. Somebody needs to lead the way in pioneering a new style of on-air fundraising that doesn't treat people like brainless zombies."

While it seems Pastor Cummins has created some controversy with the Ricky Reed character he may be striking a nerve. "It's time for people to step back and see how ridiculous some of these gimmicks are that preachers offer on T.V. It's time that we have some spiritual discernment and shut these guys down buy turning them off. said Dennis. "As far fetched and insane as some of the things we were offering on the Ricky Reed videos, people still believe it's true. This goes to show just how gullible people can be." Even though Ricky Reed is a fiction character there are many so-called preachers and prophets out to deceive and hurt people. May we use wisdom to distinguish the difference between a spiritual scam done in the Name of the Lord and a true opportunity to sew into the Kingdom of God.
