  • (1888PressRelease) July 22, 2015 - Mahindra École Centrale College of Engineering, an Indo-French Technology institution based in Hyderabad, announced increasing the facultystrength by adding three more full-time teaching staff. Two faculty members were inducted in School of Humanities while one joined in School of Engineering Sciences. This takes the total number of full time faculty to 34.

MEC uses an interdisciplinary model of education that trains three dimensional engineers: high level scientific and technical generalists, experts in initiating and piloting innovative projects, and well-rounded experts with a strong international culture. The curriculum incorporates the latest in Engineering based on Global needs and has a strong communication and "soft-skills"development focus. MECs ambition is to develop engineering graduates into leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators.

At MEC, the curriculum is an amalgamation of Basic Sciences, Basic Engineering, Humanities, Social and Creative Sciences and Enterprise Sciences. The school aims at providing the students with a basic knowledge of scientific-technological-social -business environment that they are going to work on as practitioners and methods and skills to operate in analytical, critical, design thinking, experimental approaches, project management and communication skills.

To this effect, MEC has appointed two more faculty to its School of Humanities and Social Sciences. These young faculty members bring to the fold effective communication and language skills that they will impart to the students. Prof. Paromita Bose is an M.Phil and Ph.D in English from University of Hyderabad and a budding researcher on Women's and Children's writing and gender studies. Prof. Tabitha Chekuri is an M.Phil and Ph.D in English Language Education from The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. Her specialisation has been on reflective thinking and professional development as well as classroom-based research and teaching of skills.

Prof. Jayalakshmi S has joined the School of Engineering Studies at MEC. She is a Ph.D from IIT-Madras and researched on Engineering Models for Seismic activity in India. Her area of interest is on developing numerical models for earthquake occurrences in continental tectonic plates. Her work also involves estimation of earthquake recurrence relations for individual seismic sources.

"We are very happy to welcome in the MEC fold three bright young ladies who will add to our unique pedagogical model. Our unique blend of Fundamental Sciences, Engineering sciences and Social and Human Sciences will benefit from the inclusion of Paromita and Tabitha to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Jayalakshmi to the School of Engineering Sciences. Paromita and Tabitha will work towards developing creative and critical thinking skills in our students, while Jayalakshmi will help our students understand the issues involved in Civil Engineering and how in this context a thorough understanding of Seismic activity is important", says Prof. Sanjay G Dhande, Founder Director, Mahindra Ecole Centrale.
