  • (1888PressRelease) January 11, 2014 - CALGARY, Alta - Imagine H20 (IH2O) has announced Livestock Water Recycling, Inc. (LWR), developers of a unique manure treatment technology, as a finalist in their 2013 - 2014 Food & Agriculture Competition. The program supports emerging water businesses whose primary value proposition improves water use, treatment, supply, or discharge in the food and agriculture sector. Each year the IH2O competition focuses on a specific water challenge, this year's program addresses the need for innovative water technologies to aid increased food demand and maintain global food security. LWR was selected from over 70 start-up companies from 11 countries. As a finalist, LWR will compete for over $200,000 in cash and in-kind service and admittance to IH2O's Accelerator's program.

"This is an exciting opportunity for us. The valuable feedback and work with a mentor provided by IH2O will allow us to recognize new ways to expand our business. As water usage continues to increase we want to help farmers reuse what they can," says Ross Thurston, president at LWR. The company's manure treatment technology recycles clean water and concentrates fertilizer nutrients from livestock manure for reuse.

The competition consists of an initial application, investor slide deck, mentor sessions and a live pitch. Entries are evaluated by a panel of industry professionals with expertise in water, entrepreneurship, marketing and investing. The winners and runners-up will be honored at IH2O's Entrepreneurship Showcase and World Water Day celebration March 18 in San Francisco, CA.

The program's top participants will be provided with pilot introductions to leading food businesses in California's Central Valley. The Central Valley is also home to numerous dairy operations, the state is the US' leading producer of milk.

Agriculture is the number one use of water, it accounts for more than 70% of global water usage according to the UN World Water Assessment. The installation of an LWR system enables recovery of 75% of the manure liquids to be recovered as clean water. "Our technology meets the needs of a variety of livestock operations regardless of size and type," says Thurston, of the technologies ability to successfully treat manure. LWR has recently installed systems at multiple Midwest dairies, including operations in New York, Michigan and Wisconsin.

LWR will be in California exhibiting at the World Ag Expo in Tulare from Feb. 11-13 (Booth #6121).
