  • (1888PressRelease) June 22, 2023 - BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS – The results of Libman Education’s 5th annual HIM Professional Census are now available. Completed during April and May 2023, the 2023 HIM Professional Census offers timely and in-depth insights into the thoughts and concerns of 1400 Health Information Management (HIM) professionals.

Healthcare organizations, and the HIM function within them, face significant regulatory and operational challenges. Creative and effective management of the HIM function is necessary to ensure the financial stability of these critical organizations. Individual HIM professionals are challenged to learn new skills, or new application of existing skills, as they work to support their organization.

“As a training company, we are particularly gratified to witness the commitment of HIM professionals to life-long learning,” said Susan Pepple, President of Libman Education. “We see significant interest in advanced and specialized coding as well as alternative careers that build upon the skilled coder’s knowledge of documentation, coding, and reimbursement. Investing in the skills of these already highly skilled professionals, results in a ‘win-win’ for both individuals and their employers.”

The 2023 HIM Professional Census probes both the current state of the HIM Profession and identifies trends that will affect the profession in years to come. Topics covered include:

    - Profile of current HIM professionals including salaries and credentials
    - How coding is accomplished by organizations
    - Hiring and training staff to meet requirements
    - Training preferences with ranking of training providers
    - Alternative career paths for coders, e.g. Internal Auditing, CDI, and HCCs

“We are grateful to the HIM professionals who took time to complete the Census and to share with us their unique perspective,” said Angela Lima, Director of Education and Training for Libman Education. “Their frank assessment of the challenges they face and their commitment to meeting these challenges head on, motivates us to ensure our materials address their needs, now and in the future.”
