It's hard to peruse the web these days without coming across a host of sites that are still using non-responsive design, and this is especially prevalent in the legal sector. Jefferies Solicitors' associate and head of marketing, Mark Rothman, explained why the firm wanted to make the move to a better 'model' of website.
"Many other sectors have shifted their focus to enable them to deliver their brand message and services through state of the art websites that work in lockstep with a solid social media presence. Fully responsive web design is visually appealing and drives results - something that helps us stand out from our competitors and allows every generation of customer to interact with us whether they are using an older desktop machine, or using a top-of-the-range smartphone.

Jefferies Solicitors have become recognised for a series of distinct blue and yellow 'icon' graphics that showcase their services and events. They are also themed around notable dates. Designed by Swan Creative, the bright yellow icons encompass influences from the early days of the computer age, through to contemporary designs with playful concepts. From yellow hotels that link up with property law to yellow umbrellas pitched to make you think of getting cover for your start-up business, and recently, bright yellow paper planes to reflect the impending launch of the new website! As with all things, trends tend to be cyclical, and the modern-retro trend in web design reflects this re-emerging trend in pop culture and fashion. Everywhere you look there are influences from the 70's, 80's and 90's, so why wouldn't that take hold in today's creative and web designs as well?

As Mark Rothman notes, the design concepts on the website and on their social media platforms have a specific purpose.
"Nostalgia elicits an emotional connection which is extremely important in impacting user retention, social sharing, repeat traffic, customer conversion, and trust. The demographics that spend the most money can connect better to the material. This design trend speaks to people aged thirty to sixty who have fond memories of similar imagery."

Indeed, the way that design now impacts on retention of users on a website, is integral to any business looking to keep customers on site.

Swan Creative's creative director, Paul Hope explains:
"The bright, yellow colours sit on the new Jefferies website, and make their pages' pop with visual interest and attention-grabbing hues. The yellow colour in modern-retro design is often thought of as a "happy colour". Colour can play a big role in enhancing mood which can prompt people to stay on a website or even to spend money. Modern-retro design also piggy-backs off current typography trends with custom typefaces that help to distinguish a brand."

Jefferies are also looking to launch the website with a bang - and talk of trying to capture a Guinness World Record into the bargain is rife on the doorstep of the firm!

"Anything that brings staff together and lets them work together as a team is always a good thing - especially if it's to try and get a world record!", explained Mark Rothman.

Time will tell just how much the website 'pops' and we will be watching to see if they become record breakers in 2017 with baited breath!
