  • (1888PressRelease) April 19, 2013 - The Los Angeles Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA-LA) is offering a special discount to federal employees in information security positions for attending the ISSA-LA Fifth Annual Information Security Summit, The Growing Cyber Threat: Protect Your Business, to be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Hilton Universal City Hotel in Los Angeles. The events advance ISSA-LA's core belief that 'It takes the village to secure the village'SM.

"Cybercrime and information security do not stop while the government's sequestering of funds is in place," said ISSA-LA President Stan Stahl, PhD. "Federal employees working in national security jobs should not be denied their opportunity to increase their proficiency, while Washington is at a financial standstill. President Obama stated that 'cyber threat is one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation' and 'that America's economic prosperity in the 21st century will depend on cybersecurity.' ISSA-LA is doing its part in making sure America's future is more secure."

ISSA-LA is offering authorized Federal employees a flat admission fee of $50 for attending the full-day summit, instead of the normal admission fee of $199.00. The summit will have some of the most renowned experts in information security and cybercrime. Speakers include former U.S. Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt, ISSA International President Ira Winkler, HP Enterprise Security Services Principal Strategist of Strategic Security Services Rafal Los, IANS Faculty and information protection and critical infrastructure expert Aaron Turner, Federal and local law enforcement representatives and many others at the largest IT event in Southern California.

The ISSA-LA Summit is the only educational forum in Los Angeles specifically designed for participation and interaction among business executives, senior business managers, and their trusted advisors; technical IT personnel with responsibility for information systems and the data they contain; and information security practitioners with responsibility for ensuring the security of sensitive information.

Registration is open to anyone, but is particularly recommended for information security practitioners; IT professionals; business and nonprofit executives and their trusted advisors; law enforcement professionals fighting cybercrime; and faculty and students in college and university cybersecurity programs.

The Information Security Summit is part of ISSA-LA's community outreach program. The goal of the program is to help the community stay safe from cybercrime by enabling the necessary collaboration between business, nonprofit and community leaders, technical IT professionals, and the information security community.
