  • Des Moines, IA (1888PressRelease) March 21, 2017 - Iowa Stage Theatre Company, Des Moines' newest stage theatre company, is proud to announce its 2017-2018 season. This historic first season will commence with the popular Broadway musical Company - written by George Furth with music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Generously sponsored by local business woman Linda Juckette, this 7-time Tony award-winning production will run from September 21 - October 8, 2017.

Near Thanksgiving, Iowa Stage will bring something new to Des Moines; a play called The Flick by Annie Baker. This 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama winning production will be performed November 10 - 19, 2017 with generous support from Simonson and Associates.

Quickly following The Flick, Iowa Stage and its sponsor, Kum & Go, will bring back the beloved holiday classic A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, adapted by Larry Carpenter. Families will be able to enjoy this often-sold-out production December 14 - 23, 2017.

Heading into the New Year, Iowa Stage, with the help of its sponsor - Strategic America - will bring Arthur Miller's A View From The Bridge to life! This play will be performed from February 23 until March 4, 2018.

Next up will be Lucas Hnath's The Christians - a contemporary view of American Christianity and what happens with there is a fracture in beliefs about salvation and damnation. The Christians is sure to get conversations started - in a healthy way - when it is performed April 13 - 22, 2018 with the support of Craig, Betty and Phil Miller of Miller's Mechanical Specialties.

Entering the summer of 2018, Iowa Stage will be bringing another exciting Iowa premiere play to Des Moines audiences with Rapture, Blister, Burn by Gina Gionfriddo. Sponsored by Iles Funeral Homes, this Pulitzer Prize nominated play has a lot to say about role and sacrifices of women.

Closing out the first season for Iowa Stage will be the all-time greatest love story - Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. While all the other Iowa Stage productions will take place at the Des Moines Social Club's Kum & Go Theater, Romeo & Juliet will be performed on the lawn at the beautiful Salisbury House. Mark your calendars now with "Date Night" on June 14 - 17, 2018.

In addition to the plays and musicals, Iowa Stage will be continuing the tradition of short play readings, known as Scriptease. These readings are a great way to learn about up and coming artists, playwrights and stories that do not always make it to the big stage (although some eventually do!).

Iowa Stage Theatre Company was founded in 2017 and performs contemporary and classical stage theatre at the Kum & Go Theatre located in the Des Moines Social Club. All the productions from this first season are displayed on the theatre company's website - IowaStage.org - along with a short description of each story. Season or individual performance tickets are available online or by calling (515) 309-0251.
