  • Decatur, AL (1888PressRelease) February 15, 2011 - Instant Diagnostic Systems (IDS) has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety in ambulatory care organizations. The accreditation award recognizes IDS's dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission's state-of-the-art standards. IDS has been approved by The Joint Commission in the following areas: ambulatory health, telehealth and sleep studies.

IDS underwent a rigorous on-site survey in December 2010. A Joint Commission expert surveyor evaluated IDS for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and quality management.

Since 1975, The Joint Commission has developed state-of-the-art standards for outpatient ambulatory care organizations. These standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of an ambulatory care organization; and are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts and patients.

Mark Sorrells, President and CEO of IDS, commented that, "Although accreditation is not a requirement for our type of healthcare facility in most jurisdictions, IDS felt it was important to pursue accreditation through the Joint Commission to demonstrate our commitment to providing high-quality healthcare to patients nationwide."

Based in Decatur, Alabama, IDS is an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility (IDTF) that specializes in home-based diagnostic testing. IDS is state licensed, a Medicare participating provider that meets or exceeds all Federal IDTF performance standards as posted by CMS and the Federal Registry. IDS performs Overnight Pulse-Oximetry Testing for oxygen qualification and Home Sleep Testing for CPAP or dental appliance qualification.

"As the largest provider of overnight oximetry and home sleep testing in the United States, we hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard to provide high-quality, cost-effective diagnostic tests that patients can self-administer in their own homes. With as many as 20 million Americans currently undiagnosed with sleep apnea, the number of home sleep tests performed by IDS is growing rapidly. Primary care physicians realize they can order a home sleep test and provide treatment to many of their patients without the patient going to an in-lab facility for the test at a significantly greater cost," Sorrells said.

IDS conducts more studies in the home than any other IDTF in the nation. IDS serves over 125,000 physicians, 2,500 Home Medical Equipment Suppliers (HMEs), and has performed home tests on over 800,000 patients. IDS's technical infrastructure is highly advanced, cost-efficient and HIPAA compliant, having been built to accommodate nearly unlimited volume and growth.
