  • (1888PressRelease) March 21, 2012 - Bellevue WA: iLink Systems, an ISO and CMMI certified global software solutions provider and Microsoft Gold Level Partner and winner of 2011 Microsoft Mobility Partner Award, presented and participated in the recently concluded Microsoft Worldwide Public Safety Symposium 2012 held on Mar 13-15 at Redmond, WA. The annual symposium, that attracted more than 400 attendees from 32 countries, is dedicated to helping public safety professionals leverage technology to improve disaster response efforts.

At this symposium, along with Microsoft, Abhilash Vantaram, Practice Manager - Public Sector, at iLink Systems, presented iLink's Situation Awareness/Disaster Response Surface application and briefly demoed some of the sophisticated features of the application. The Situation Awareness/Disaster Response Surface application provides situational awareness on Microsoft Surface 2.0, by presenting data from disparate data sources (as web services) on Geographic Information System- Bing Maps. Geo-mapping and layering data/entities on Bing Maps provides a common operational picture (COP), thus allowing users to see the composite disaster response operational picture. The application facilitates a multi-user collaborative environment that allows various operational capabilities such as connecting & communicating with globally dispersed field personnel, safe zoning, alerting convoys and field personnel from trespassing into an unsafe zone, tracking personnel and assets (such as planes, convoys/vehicles etc.) in real-time, journaling (geo-tagging notes, images & videos & document libraries) from the field. Communication capability is powered by both Lync and Skype. The User Interface aligns with Microsoft's Metro design guidelines. The application can be further extended to Windows Phone and Windows 8 slates- providing a COP on-the-go, thus empowering the mobile workforce to do more, unlike traditional devices.

On talking about the event, Abhi said "Our surface application with never- before-seen usability and user experience, generated a lot of interest and curiosity amongst the audience. The attendees were excited about iLink's framework on top which this application was built and the minimum amount of time that it took to develop this sophisticated application. This framework can be easily customized to other departments like Incident Management, Criminal intelligence and Investigation, Digital Forensics & Laboratory Management and Neighborhood Management etc. "
